How to redeem VENICE

1. Start from the Kalshi button on this page

   Our link opens Kalshi's sign-up with the Venice offer attached. Californians sign up with their real address — no VPN, no workaround.

2. Type VENICE in the promo field

   Kalshi asks for a promo code during registration. Enter VENICE there, then finish the ID check (driver's license or state ID, plus your SSN for tax forms).

3. Fund the account and trade $25

   Deposit by bank transfer or debit card, then place $25 of trades in any market — a Dodgers game, the governor's race, a Los Angeles high-temperature contract. Kalshi then adds $25 of trading credit.

Kalshi in California right now

Kalshi is open to verified Californians statewide, with one exception: in September 2026 it switched off access on the lands of three California tribes after the Ninth Circuit's Blue Lake Rancheria ruling. Outside California, the offer isn't available in Nevada, Michigan or Washington.

The legal question is still open. California sits in the Ninth Circuit, which ruled on August 28, 2026 that Kalshi is unlikely to show federal law overrides state gambling law for sports contracts; the Sixth Circuit agreed on September 25, while the Third Circuit went the other way in April. Can I use the Kalshi code VENICE in California?

Yes. Eligible Californians can sign up and claim trade $25, get $25 with code VENICE. The exception is the lands of three California tribes, where Kalshi turned off access in September 2026 after a Ninth Circuit ruling for the Blue Lake Rancheria and Chicken Ranch Rancheria tribes.

Is it legal to trade sports on Kalshi from California?

Kalshi offers its contracts in California and the state has not acted against it. But California is in the Ninth Circuit, which ruled in August 2026 (in Kalshi's Nevada case) that Kalshi is unlikely to show federal law blocks state gambling laws for sports contracts. Do Californians pay state tax on Kalshi winnings?

Yes. California taxes trading profits as ordinary state income at 1% to 13.3%, on top of federal tax, unlike Florida or Texas. Keep a log of every trade.

What do Californians trade on Kalshi first?

Local markets are the easiest way in: the California governor race, the Los Angeles mayor runoff, Dodgers, Padres, Lakers, Warriors, 49ers, Rams and Chargers contracts, Oscars and box-office markets, and daily high-temperature markets for Los Angeles. Availability of each market changes, so check the app.

What exactly does VENICE unlock?

Trade $25, get $25: after your first $25 of event-contract trades, Kalshi adds $25 of trading credit. It's for new Kalshi accounts only.

Do I need both the link and the code?

Use both. Start from our link and type VENICE in the promo field during registration; codes generally can't be added after the account is created.

How soon does the $25 show up?

After your qualifying $25 of trades clears, per Kalshi's terms. If you don't see it, Kalshi support can check your sign-up against the code.

Can I take the $25 straight out as cash?

No. It's trading credit: you use it to buy contracts, and what those contracts pay out can be withdrawn under Kalshi's terms.
