Influencer Prediction Markets: How Creator Contracts Work in California
Influencer prediction markets are event contracts on creator outcomes: YouTube subscriber milestones, Streamer Awards winners, Spotify chart positions and even words a creator says on camera. Kalshi lists the most. As of September 26, 2026, IShowSpeed led Kalshi's Streamer of the Year market at 69%.

- Subscriber and follower milestones. Will a creator pass a set number of YouTube subscribers or Twitch followers by a deadline?
- Awards. Who wins Streamer of the Year, Gamer of the Year and other categories at the Streamer Awards?
- Music charts. Which song tops Spotify's daily or weekly chart, or Billboard's Hot 100?
- Mention markets. Will a creator say a specific word in their next video? Kalshi has listed these for MrBeast uploads.
- Monthly subscriber counts. Will a streamer reach a set number of paid Twitch subscribers this month?

What influencer prediction markets actually list
Influencer prediction markets turn creator news into yes or no contracts that pay $1 if the event happens. On CFTC-regulated exchanges, the main types are:
- •Subscriber and follower milestones. Will a creator pass a set number of YouTube subscribers or Twitch followers by a deadline?
- •Awards. Who wins Streamer of the Year, Gamer of the Year and other categories at the Streamer Awards?
- •Music charts. Which song tops Spotify's daily or weekly chart, or Billboard's Hot 100?
- •Mention markets. Will a creator say a specific word in their next video? Kalshi has listed these for MrBeast uploads.
- •Monthly subscriber counts. Will a streamer reach a set number of paid Twitch subscribers this month?

YouTube subscriber milestones: MrBeast and IShowSpeed
- •MrBeast's 500 million contract already paid out. YouTube announced on June 12, 2026 that MrBeast was the first individual creator to reach 500 million subscribers. Kalshi's "500 million this year" contract resolved Yes.
- •The next rung is far away. MrBeast had about 518 million subscribers as of September 26, 2026 (Alien Art Charts, from YouTube data). Kalshi priced 1 billion before January 1, 2027 at under 1% the same day.
- •IShowSpeed is a ladder market. Kalshi lists separate contracts for Speed reaching 100 million YouTube subscribers before 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030. On September 26, 2026 they showed 12%, 30%, 71% and 69%.
- •Notice the last two rungs. A later deadline can never be less likely than an earlier one, yet "before 2030" showed a lower price than "before 2029". That is what thin trading looks like: the displayed price is often the last trade, not a fresh quote.
- •What moves these markets. Speed passed 60 million subscribers in late July 2026 after his World Cup tour and added roughly a million more by the end of August, according to Win.gg (August 31, 2026). Tours and viral moments speed up growth; quiet months slow it.
The Streamer Awards: a Los Angeles story
- •Last year's show was in Los Angeles. The 2025 Streamer Awards were held at the Wiltern Theatre on December 6, 2025, and IShowSpeed won Streamer of the Year. Kai Cenat took four awards.
- •This year's date. The 2026 Streamer Awards are set for November 12, 2026, with the show at 5:30 PM Pacific, according to the Twitch blog (August 31, 2026). Fan voting runs October 16 to October 31, 2026.
- •The market. As of September 26, 2026, Kalshi had IShowSpeed at 69% for Streamer of the Year 2026, Jynxzi at 13% and Kai Cenat at 11%, with five more names listed.
- •Mind the spread. On the same day, IShowSpeed's Yes contract was offered at 78 cents and No at 30 cents. Those add to 108 cents, a gap you pay to cross. Use limit orders; our guide on how to read an order book explains how.
Spotify and music chart contracts
- •How they resolve. Kalshi settles Spotify markets on the charts published at charts.spotify.com, not the numbers in the mobile app, per Kalshi's Help Center. USA and Global charts are separate markets, so check which one you are trading.
- •The Earrings episode. Malcolm Todd's "Earrings" jumped about 70% in streams on June 29, 2026 to reach No. 1 on Spotify's US daily chart, alongside heavy trading on Kalshi. Spotify removed more than 500,000 artificial streams and the song fell to No. 4, Music Business Worldwide reported on July 3, 2026. A Kalshi contract on June's most-streamed song had drawn about $3 million in trading, and payouts had already gone out. There was no evidence the artist or his team were involved.
- •The lesson. A chart can be pushed by fake streams. When a single day's move looks too big, the risk is not just being wrong but being right for the wrong reason.
The scrutiny: insider trades, fake wins and a letter from Padilla
2026 put creator markets and creator marketing under a microscope. What happened, with dates:
- •Kalshi's MrBeast-editor case. On February 25, 2026, the CFTC's Enforcement Division published an advisory on two Kalshi cases. In one, an editor with access to a YouTube channel's unreleased content traded on related markets in August and September 2025. Kalshi fined the editor $20,397.58, including $5,397.58 in disgorged profits, and suspended the account for two years. NPR identified the channel as MrBeast's.
- •The rule it illustrates. If you work for a creator, or know what is in an unreleased video, you cannot trade that creator's markets. The CFTC called this "misappropriation of confidential information in breach of a pre-existing duty."
- •Polymarket's influencer campaigns. A Wall Street Journal report on June 20, 2026 said paid TikTok creators showed staged wins on look-alike sites. Polymarket said it was "conducting a comprehensive audit of active promotional content." Two suits followed: one from the National Association of Consumer Advocates on June 26, 2026, and a class action filed September 3, 2026, now in federal court in Washington, D.C. These are allegations; no court has ruled on them.
- •California's senator weighs in. On August 26, 2026, Senators Alex Padilla of California and Mark Warner of Virginia wrote to Kalshi and Polymarket about paid influencers who, they said, spread false election claims while promoting election markets. They asked for sample influencer contracts and vetting policies by September 4, 2026. As of September 26, 2026, we found no public reply from either company.
- •New York City too. The New York City Council opened an inquiry into prediction market advertising on August 12, 2026, including influencer marketing (CBS News).
How to read an influencer contract before you trade
- •Find the resolution source. Subscriber markets settle on a named count, awards on the official announcement and Spotify markets on charts.spotify.com. The Speed ladder settles on the subscriber count YouTube shows for @IShowSpeed, and Streamer of the Year on reporting of the Streamer Awards result by major outlets such as the AP, Reuters and Variety, per Kalshi's market rules.
- •Check the deadline and time zone. "Before 2027" and "this year" can mean different cutoffs. Kalshi's Streamer of the Year 2026 contract expires at 11:59 PM Eastern on December 31, 2026.
- •Add up both sides. If Yes and No together cost well over $1, the market is thin. Place limit orders instead of buying at the ask.
- •Watch for inconsistent ladders. A later deadline priced below an earlier one is a sign that prices are stale.
- •Assume insiders exist. Creator outcomes are known early by editors, managers and award staff. Size positions for the chance someone knows more than you.
- •Be skeptical of creator promos. A video showing a big win is an ad unless it proves otherwise. Look for the paid partnership label.
